Houston ISD Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps

The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) was established in the Houston Independent School District in 1926. Once looked upon primarily as a source of enlisted recruits and officer candidates, the JROTC program evolved into it's current form as a citizenship and leadership educational program devoted to the moral, physical, and educational development of American youth.
Houston Independent School District JROTC Department consists of 18 Army, 5 Navy JROTC, and 1 Air Force JROTC programs with a total JROTC enrollment of 4,400 students for school year 2020-2021. Statistics for students completing four years in the program are as follows: over 85% attend post secondary educational institutions; 5% enter the workforce; and less than 10% join the Armed Forces. This past school year (2019-2020), graduating senior cadets earned approximately $10,000,000.00 in scholarships.
